Make Some Profit By Investing In These Types Of Baseball Cards
We all love baseball cards and so their value should only keep increasing. Right?
Over the past few decades, the value of baseball cards has come down significantly, thanks to the dwindling away of collecting enthusiasts. The value of the baseball cards increased highly in the early 1990s, when they were produced in huge numbers to meet the demand. But later on, their value started to decline rapidly.
And presently, there is a lot less number of new collectors entering the hobby; kids are becoming more interested in the fantasy game cards. Not only this, the price of a complete set has also increased significantly as compared to that in early 1990s. All these factors have now resulted in a low demand.
If you are a baseball cards collecting fan too, and don't want to lose in investing in them, here are a few types of cards that are still valuable.
- Pre-World War II cards: These are believed to be highly valuable; the foremost reason of their high value is that a very few pre-World War number II cards have survived till date, and they are high in demand. However, the sad part is that the most of these cards available today are not in a very good condition. Also, they have been reprinted and reissued greatly, making it difficult to tell if the card is original. One way to ascertain the originality is to look at the natural wear and tear, and of course their condition. You really cannot expect to get a pre-World war II card in mint condition, can you? If you want to know for sure if it is original, consider getting it graded. Another problem is that it is difficult to tell exactly what years were these cards were issued in by just looking at them.
- Vintage cards: Quite high in demand, collectors would usually pay a good value for these cards. And when it comes to vintage cards, complete sets are much, much better, and mean a lot more money. To tell what year a vintage card was issued in, you should look at the player's statistics at the back of the card. Add one to the most recent year to learn the year that the card was issued in.
- Rookie card: The first card of a player, it is also quite high in demand. A rookie card has an "R" or "RC" next to the name of the player. Its value is comparatively higher than other cards of the same player's career. However, not all rookie cards are equally valuable. Only players who achieve prominence will have valuable cards. It is really impossible to know which player will become popular later in his career, and the only option is to make a good guess. There are so many players who miss the mark of being the best. Their cards are called "commons," and are usually of no or little value.
- Limited edition cards or inserts: These may be autographed or have pieces of the player's jerseys, bats, gloves, bases, or other sports equipment.
