How To Fix Your Golf Swing
Most golfers who are trying to fix their swing wonder how long it's going to take. In the next sections, I show you some different approaches you can take. As you read them, it will be up to you to figure out the best approach.
Swing Fix 1 - Purchase New Equipment
At one time or another, most golfers have thought the buying new clubs was going to instantly change their game. Buying new club is not to be totally discounted because many people are not playing with the correct equipment for their swing, or they haven't had their clubs fitted. What you should do, is find an experienced clubfitter and have your clubs fitted and your swing checked as soon as you can.
There's another little know way that buying new clubs can fix your swing. Newer clubs feel different from your old clubs. Because they feel different, hitting shots with them causes you to take your mind off of your swing. This new feeling totally clears your mind but it doesn't last long. A couple of weeks after using your new clubs, they don't feel all that different so you start thinking about your swing again. The best thing to do would be to stop experimenting with new clubs. As I mentioned earlier, try to find a professional clubfitter and get properly fitted. Then, stay focused on working on your swing.
Swing Fix 2 - Trying Different Swing Tips
We've all grabbed the latest golf magazine and tried the latest tip with the hope it will magically change our game. Unfortunately, most golfers don't have the experience to determine whether or not these tips will even work for them. If you don't know your swing well enough, and you keep trying these tips, you may make your swing worse. Plus, a tip is a tip. It's not certain that it's going to help you develop the proper fundamentals.
An example of a tip would be to move your hands into a stronger grip position. Even though a tip like this may help you square the clubface better through impact, you're still not doing the correct grip. You should be very careful the next time you go to work on the latest tip you find in a magazine, or from your buddy. What you should do, is go over the tip with your head professional or teacher to determine whether or not this tip would be something you should pursue. Only then should you try it. It it works, that's fantastic!
Swing Fix 3 - No Focus
So many golfer's are searching for the instant cure that they get caught up into experimenting with too many changes at once. This approach is futile. Unfortunately, this will only lead to you being confused. Also, you may have attempted so many different things that you don't remember what actually worked plus, your improvement may have just been luck. The way you can truly know if this approach is working is if your game improves well into the future.
Swing Fix 4 - Working on One Thing at a Time
The best thing you can do to fix your golf swing is to work on one thing until you have it mastered. If you do it this way, you'll keep your focus and not be trying to work on all sorts of different things at once. To work on your swing this way, you will need to study a swing method or take lessons from a qualified pro. Working on your swing this way will make the changes permanent because you will spend more time on each position without distractions. Now, I know that you're probably thinking this is going to take a long time. When you compare this way of fixing your swing to the others, you really will getter better, faster.
This is because the other approaches only give you a short term fix whereas, working on only only area of your swing, creates proper mechanics that you will have well into the future.
