How To Make A Return To Golf After An Extended Break Like Tiger Woods

For whatever reasons Tiger Woods has been in the media as of late he remains one of the most successful golfers in the game and his presence had been missed at tournaments and golf courses around the world during his absence. But Tiger’s extended leave from the game is no different from many other amateur golfers amongst us who may not have picked up the golf bag in a few months, even years.
Getting back to our best can be difficult and many people believe their golfing form should be like riding a bike, expecting to fire birdie after birdie when they eventually come back to the golf course. This year’s Masters Competition at Augusta was where Tiger chose to make his return although it wasn’t exactly as triumphant as many people were expecting.
Tiger himself seemed rather annoyed with himself at times during the tournament, vocally chastising himself for a poor shot that landed off the fairway. This is what many golfers may feel when they know they have performed well in the past. It can be a tough challenge to be able to meet our own expectations and the problem for many is that they aren’t prepared to put the effort in or feel that they may have lost the rhythm.
The key thing to remember is that even seasoned pros like Tiger don’t go back into competitive games without first having practiced and got the feel for certain shot types. It was clear to see a few times Tiger had trouble sinking some fairly basic putts but his approach shots were on fire. Whilst it is impossible to say for sure but perhaps practicing his putting for a few hours more each time he practiced could have saved him a few extra putts.
For all golfers this is true, it is even suggested that by taking time to have a practice round and keeping note of what went wrong and if there’s a recurring theme such as poor tee shots or putts falling short then you know which areas you need to focus on when practicing. A lot of people are too quick to return to tournaments and even competitive games amongst friends. It may be hard but taking time to become happy with your entire golf game before playing competitively should fill you with confidence as well as prepare you for a wide range of shots you’ll likely have to make during a game.
