The Driving Range Blunders. How We Kill Our Scores When At The Range.

To practice the game of golf correctly is rarely talked about. We seem to be fed the trick shots or what to do out of the sand, but never know how to practice these shots. To practice these shots is crucial so when that shot appears, you are ready to go.
A question I get a lot is "whats the best practicing method?" The answer, its different strokes for different folks. But, the biggest culprit..the one that truly keeps us at lackluster games is that we are not physically or mentally present when practicing. The mental part is a huge hurdle in itself and typically we sluff this part of our game off into wishing things happen on the golf course.
Before we go any further, lets all agree...the mental part of our game has never been practiced and it's not our fault. Who can blame us? The marketing noise is so loud out there, we cant even think. The great ads I see are buy this club and you will hit straighter shots and lower your scores. Really? Really? You mean to tell me that science is so good I can throw $300 to the manufacturer and ba-boom, I will hit a straighter ball? Im in!
Well, after we buy into that noise..what happens? Around the 2 month mark our typical game comes right back. Now why in the world do we buy into this placebo? I think we buy in because it sells to our ego, and golfers have HUGE ego's.
Sorry for the rant. Back on topic, here are a couple of things I want everyone to try out the next time they are at the range.
Now, after 18 years of teaching tennis/golfI know HOW important the swing is to everyone. But, I dont want to touch that category with a 10 foot pole. Why? Wellits simple: Im from the camp that golf is much more than a swing. For the majority of golfers, the swing makes or breaks your game. In some respects, this is trueHOWEVER, unless you have balance with your body and mind, you will continue to shoot your typical lackluster game NO QUESTION!!
Yes, I get it.you need some sort of control of your shots but if you have no clue HOW to retain a swing, HOW to practice correctly, HOW to really break your typical game and reach the next level, wellthen you are nothing more than a machine trying to meet critical points that no not deviate or they will propagate into other dependencies when attacking your shot. Huhwhat? Well, thats what many golfers are! From the weekend warriors to the ladies leagueall machines trying to resolve bad play from the outside inwhen the real trick is the inside out!!

OKhere we goa couple of tips that will most certainly help our your scores on the course.but please.read themuse themand have some fun: (this is just a subset of the full list. You can get all 15 of them for free at the golf help site!)
#1) Grass Tee's ONLY! Rubber mats do not provide a true result when practicing. They actually save you many times giving you false hope.
#2) Do not move the ball up and back in your stance! Look, when practicing an iron, keep the ball placement consistent. If you do this, then you are practicing the shot.
#3) Get a pre shot routine and use it before each shot. You may look silly...but the pre shot will set your swing and mind.
