* Soft cloth
* Fine Steel wool
* Oil or WD-40
* Copper or Aluminum brush
Instructions:
1. Safety first: Remove the gun from the source of live ammunition.
2. Preparation: Set the rifle on a stable work surface. Remove any detachable parts (like stocks or barrels) to remove any rust buildup.
3. Identify Rust Spots: Wipe down the firearm with the soft cloth to find all the rusty areas.
4. Start Gentle: Dip a soft cloth in WD-40 or gun oil. Rub it on the rusty area. Allow it to sit for a few minutes to penetrate and loosen the rust.
5. Use Superfine Steel Wool: This is less abrasive than standard steel wool and won’t damage bluing or engravings on your rifle.
6. Rub in Circular Motions: Start working on one spot until the rust disappears, then move on to the next one.
7. Repeat If Necessary: If the rust is heavy, you may have to repeat this step several times.
8. Remove Excess Oil: Wipe down the rifle surface with a clean, dry cloth to get rid of any remaining oil.
9. Optional: Apply a fine coat of gun oil using the soft cloth to protect the exposed metal.
10. Brush: Run the copper or aluminum brush through the barrel several times to remove rust residue.
11. Inspect and repeat: Take apart any reassembled components and check them for rust. Repeat the cleaning steps as needed.
