The breach of a gun is the opening at the rear of the barrel through which the cartridge is loaded and fired. It is also the part of the gun that houses the firing pin. When the trigger is pulled, the firing pin strikes the primer of the cartridge, which ignites the gunpowder and propels the bullet out of the barrel.
