Golf Park Puntiro Mallorca
Situated just outside Palma, accessible via the Palma to Sineu road, Puntiro is a protected natural area and has a rural feel to it due to its inland location. Launched in autumn 2006, it is designed by the famous Jack Nicklaus's team, and is therefore very popular with those wishing to complete all of his European gold courses. This was his 279th layout, and many have compared it to a Links course.
The course is 18 holes and is a par 71, and its estate spans over 165 acres. With a total length of approximately 6,591 yards out from the white tees, this is a great course for high-precision hitters. The difficulty of the course is described as average, although it can reach higher levels from the back tees. Not a building in sight, the course is encompassed by wild olive trees, pines, carob trees and bushes. They are all immaculately kept, just like the greens (Bermuda grass), and provide the player with a sense of the natural environment of the island, away from the hustle and bustle of the island's centre, only a short 9 kilometre drive away.
Every hole at Puntiro is different from the next and stretches out to every conceivable compass point. At holes 7, 8, 15 and 16, you will come across some large lakes, where some of Nickalus risk and reward temptations could lead you into possible watery graves. The 8th hole is 334 metres, and the tee-shot is played directly over the lake to the fairway. This leaves an approach of somewhere between 65 and 90 metres. It is a course where accuracy is of more importance than length. Plenty of stones, rough and rocky outcrops, challenging recovery shots and native vegetation mean that it is a course full of surprises and anticipation.
Before or after a game, players can enjoy relaxing in Puntiro's fantastically-equipped clubhouse. Located in a prime area of the estate, it offers spectacular views over the 18th hole green, and is situated just 215 yards away from the superb driving range. The clubhouse is home to an excellent pro-shop and restaurant and provides storage and trolley rental facilities from here.
Golf on Mallorca is wonderful given the climate and some people choose to live on or next to the Golf Course. Many of these properties are stunning with exceptional views and exceptional access to the course itself. If you love Golf and Mallorca then a Golf property is more than a viable option.
