Tiger Woods will make the USA's Ryder Cup team, according to team captain Corey Pavin.

In the troubled star's biggest vote of confidence since his return to the game after problems in his private life, Pavin insists the 14-time Major winner is a big part of his plans for Celtic Manor.

Woods is currently seventh in the eight automatic qualification spots, with Pavin picking the final four himself.

"I'm not concerned about whether he'll make the team on points – it'll be fantastic, I want him on the team," said Pavin.

"He's the number-one player in the world. There's something wrong with you if you don't want him on the team.

"I want him to be playing well. He's finished in the top five in the last two major championships and he's put himself on the team right now.

"I expect him to go up on that list and improve his position and he'll make the team no problem."

Woods doesn't have the best record at the Ryder Cup – with ten wins, 13 defeats and two halves from five events – and has only been on the winning team once, back in 1999.
