Golf laser range finders are used for calculating the distances, they produce an infra red laser light when they are directed on a specific target or an object. The infra red pulses are then directed towards the receiving lens which measure the reception time of the of infra-red pulses and calculates the distance in few seconds.

Though golf laser range finders are widely preferred by golfers but on the other hand there are some built in factors which disturb the reliability and calculations of the laser range finders. The strength of the infra-red pulses is restricted to avoid any kind of damage to the naked eye. Other built in factors like software controlling; electrical system and lens quality take laser range finder one step behind than the other modern range finders. As this device calculate distances with the help of a reflected beam therefore reflective quality of a targeted object also leaves an impact on the calculation. For instance distance of the reflective surfaces like sand and water can be measured more accurately as compare to the non reflective flags of a golf course. Day light, rain and foggy weather conditions can also affect the performance of laser golf rangefinders

Different models of golf laser range finders offer different kind of ranges but it is seen that distance up to 250 or 400 yards can be measured accurately whereas most of the models offer total range up to 1000 yards. Laser range finders perform well in day light but they perform extremely well in dim lights.

GPS Range Finders works on the satellite technology and they widely depend on the course maps for calculating the distances. Course maps can be expensive and GPS Range Finders are not as much useful as laser range findersbecause they are only accurate within 10 to 15 yards only. Moreover GPS range finders do not assist drivers about driving range where as golf laser rangefinders enable users to calculate the distance of the point which is visible. Golf laser rangefinders can prove out to be really useful during the golf practice sessions where golfers often need to calculate the distance of their shots.
