Are you sick of being a hacker and you want to do something about your golf game? Do you need some drills to help you so that you do not feel like you are wasting your time when you practice? There are many different elements to the golf swing and anybody that tells you it is easy is crazy. Here are some golf swing drills that will help you hit the ball better.
First, and this one is for all of you that have a bad slice, go out to the range with a shoe box or something similar. If you are right handed, then place the shoe box to the right of the golf ball so that there is only about an inch between the toe of your club and the box when you set up. Now hit the ball without hitting the shoe box. This drill helps to teach you to swing from inside-square-inside and if you do it for a while you will see less of a slice.
You may get some duck hooks in there with this drill, but that is part of the learn process and that is just the over exaggeration of the swing you are trying to make.
Second, if you are having set up issues, which is something that a lot of people have, then you can try this drill. Use a basketball or something similar and hold it between your knees while you swing. This drill will give you the proper width in your stance and will also help if you have a lot of lower body movement in your swing.
You also want to flare your front foot out about 30 degrees and your back foot about 15 degrees. This helps you clear your hips through and will help you get more power as well.
Last, to help you with alignment you can use a shaft or a straight stick of some sort on each side of the ball. Line them up parallel and at the intended target. Leave yourself enough room between them that you can strike the ball and use these as a guide to line up the club face, your feet, your hips, and your shoulders. This is one of the best golf swing drills you can use for alignment.
