Taylormade  has some new releases prepared for announcement at the 2010 Tokyo GolfShow Including one we have all been waiting for the R9 Forged Irons.

 

The standard Taylormade R9 Forged Iron is made using a cast steel body with a soft forged mild S25C face and features an undercut cavity to increase forgiveness. The R9 Forged standard model features #3 thru #7 irons with a two piece construction while #8 to PW uses one piece forged construction. The target player for the standard R9 Forged model is mid- low handicap golfer while at the same time Tour Pro's in Japan do intend to put this set into use. Several JLPGA women will be putting it into play within the next few events in Japan.

 

TaylorMade seems to have made it its mission in recent years to reinvent what the phrase "classic golf club" means. For example, they have taken the pear-shaped driver and morphed it into a geometrical tinker toy that looks both modern and classic at the same time. Now, their researchers and designers have turned their attention to creating a classic/modern iron.

 

Given the success of the r7 line, the expectations for the TaylorMade R9 line could not be much higher. Is it possible for a club to gain 10% of distance over the already long r7? Can the R9 improve its forgiveness while incorporating several characteristics of a classic golf club? Can a game-improvement club have a soft feel?
