Forgiving and Playable Ping G15 Irons Review

Ping has created a great iron take the right balance of forgiveness and playability and have been praised in many golf reviews. Depending on the target audience depends on how those factors are balanced out. Typically when you go down the "game-improvement" iron road, it means big offset, wide soles, draw biased irons.  But not everyone that needs a game improvement iron slices the ball. Sometimes it might just be less practice and infrequency of play that the golfer might desire a "game-improvement" iron. The Ping G15 irons from Ping are "game-improvement" all the way, but with a slight fade bias.

Seven grams of weight have been removed from the tuning port in the back of the head of theG15 irons and repositioned to help provide high launch and optimal spin. The face is thinner than previous models and weight is added to the toe of the head for more stability and forgiveness. The Ping G15 irons should suit golfers who want high-quality game-improving irons, need to gain more accuracy and distance, and prefer large, confidence-inspiring heads.

Like its predecessor, the G15 is an oversized iron designed for players seeking maximum forgiveness. However, several changes have been made which PING believes should make the club even more forgiving.

The epicenter of the G15's technological advances is the new Custom Tuning Port ("CTP"). While the G10 had a CTP, PING engineers reshaped and repositioned the CTP to save seven grams. The weight savings of a thinner face allowed the engineers move weight to the perimeter – particularly the toe – to improve forgiveness for off-center hits as well as increase MOI. PING believes that these changes provide the proper structure and support to ensure distance control and solid feel.

A second change from the G10 is the sole design. A wider sole positions the center of gravity lower and farther back to increase launch angle as well as "ensure a smooth transition through the turf." To offset the higher trajectories, PING strengthened the lofts of every iron by 1 degree.

The last semi-major change from the G10 is that the Ping G15 irons conform to the new USGA groove rule.
