Dogged Justin Rose shares lead in Sun City
Justin Rose and Trevor Immelman each shot five-under 67s yesterday, to share the lead by five strokes after the third round of the Nedbank Challenge.
Each had seven birdies and two bogeys to total 16-under 200 at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City. Three-time champion Ernie Els (69) was next at 205, four strokes ahead of Henrik Stenson (72).
Immelman and Rose will play together for the second straight day today. Immelman said: 揥e can抰 let it become a match-play situation because it抯 a tough golf course, and there are some good players behind us that we have to keep our eyes on.?br />
Rose indicated that the sportsmanship between the two leaders would remain for the final round. 揥e抣l play hard and respect each other憇 good shots, just like we did today,?the Englishman said.
Rose抯 bogeys were his first of the tournament, but he kept the pressure on his South African rival with five birdies on the back nine.
Immelman pushed his drive on the 18th to the right, and his lay-up landed in a greenside bunker, while Rose抯 second shot was just 12 feet short of the pin. Immelman抯 bunker shot left him only three feet from the hole to get away with just one dropped shot, while Rose missed his birdie attempt.
揃oth times when I felt I was faltering today, I managed to get three birdies in a row and get myself back in the tournament,?said Rose, who had birdies on the sixth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 14th, 15th and 16th holes.
Immelman was disappointed to start and finish his round with bogeys. 揟here was a lot of good stuff in between, and I have just got to grind out each hole,?he said.
Els had six birdies and three bogeys, but achieved his desire expressed after the second round of scoring birdies on all four of the par-5s.
Rory Sabbatini (67) equalled the day抯 best round to move into seventh place at 5-under 211.
