Skills That Help To Win

Golf is a game of skill, therefore if you are inexperienced or lacking in skill then you can expect pretty lofty scores. However, if you are having a little bit of trouble with your game and you don’t know where to go to get the answers then with a few vital bits of golfing advice and possibly some golf lessons you could turn this around. Here are some of the more common things that golfers have trouble with.

One tip that is known to help golfers with their drive is how to play with a short iron; some people think that playing with a short iron is the same as playing with any other club. A rule of thumb you should be made aware of is that the higher the club, the narrower your stance should be and the ball should be further back in your stance as well. When you go to swing, take an open stance with the ball placed in the middle and your hands slightly ahead of it. Swing as normal; smooth and with a full turn at the hips and shoulders. When you being your down swing use your knees, hips, and shoulders to drive you and hit the ball with that power.

Another thing you should know is how to get out of the rough. You are going to take a 6 or 7 iron because you need a higher angled club. You won’t need a full swing, but you will want to have the ball towards the back of your stance when you go to hit, this means the ball will fly upwards more, making less contact with the grass which could dampen its trajectory and distance. Use your full body weight, not just your shoulders and hips, because that will not be enough force to get your ball out.

One of the seemingly easiest parts of playing golf can also be the most difficult aspect for many to master; their putting, so I want to tell you a skill that might help you in putting. Don’t grip onto the club when you go to putt, your touch on it should be gentle, like a pendulum. Now put your foot near the ball, line the face of the club to the target and look above the ball when you go to putt. Hands must be level through the stroke move with your shoulders, not your elbows or wrists. The putter head must be low to the ground, keep it in line with the target when you swing. Accelerate slightly and watch the hole on the follow through, not the ball.

There are many ways to improve your golf game; one of the best ways is to go online for free golf lessons and charting your progress with golf handicap software to see where you are struggling.
