Golf Power Exercises

Golf is not seen as a physical sport like football or basketball, but that does not mean that regular exercise and strength training will not have dramatic affects on your golf game. The stronger, more flexible, and more smooth you are as an athlete, the better your golf swing is going to be, and the better your golf swing is, the farther and more accurate you are going to hit the ball. Is it proven that power exercises help your golf swing.

There are some power exercises that are specific to golf and will help you out tremendously. These exercises will work out specific muscles that are used in generating a smooth and powerful golf swing. Many of these golf exercises can easily be done in your home, while you are traveling or at the office, if that is okay with your boss of course!

By exercising regularly you are also going to prevent yourself from getting any injuries while you are playing, and yes people do get injured frequently while playing golf. One exercise you should try is done by lying on your stomach with both of your hands down by your sides. The next step is to raise up your chest, upper body, arms and legs as high as possible. You want all of your weight to be supported by your stomach. Stay in this position until you count to ten then rest. Do this easy exercise 3 times a day and you will start to see an increase in your lower back strength.

Another way to work on your core strength, which is incredibly important to golfers is to sit on a balance ball. Balance balls are great for working on your core, when you buy one you will usually get an instruction guide that has pictures of different exercises to do. I don’t want to go into balance ball exercises here because they are much easier to follow using pictures. Another great golf exercise is lunges with a golf club over your shoulders. Hold the club over your shoulders and when you lung, rotate your body toward the leg that you have out in front. This will work your legs and core.

Remember that staying in great shape will help your golf game and the stronger your are, not just your arms, but specifically your legs and core, the better your golf swing is going to be. A smooth, powerful golf swing is your key to lowering your score on the course and having more fun.
