What is Golf?
Golf is an ancient, enjoyable and thoroughly frustrating game played with a club and a ball outdoors. It is usually played for relaxation and recreation. Most golfers will appreciate learning new techniques to enhance their play.
Golf play starts with hitting a small ball off the tee onto the fairway. One attempts to hit the ball onto the green and then into the cup or hole. Some courses are 9 holes, some are' holes or more. Some courses are designed to be walked and some are more easily played when one uses a golf cart.
The point of the game is to place the ball in the hole with the least amount of strokes. The person who plays the' holes with the least amount of strokes wins the game. Golf has many rules of play that must be observed during play and learning these first is a good idea. Furthermore, a general knowledge of golf etiquette is necessary.
Golf was first played in Scotland in the eighteen hundreds. Clubs were carved from wood and the ball was a bit of feathers with leather tightly stretched over them. Needless to say, there were no booming drives at this time. By the eighteen hundreds, golfing had spread all over the world. It is estimated that over 100 million people play golf each year now.
Many people are getting interested in the game now. It's a great game that is fun and relaxing to play. When you play golf, the rest of the world seems to disappear. Anyone can play, no matter what type of golf you play.
Young people are getting in on the game too. They can play when in school or out of school. Schools are now including golf as a sport the kids can take up. Kids usually start golf habits in high school and continue them throughout their lives. Golf can be slow sometimes for a teenager, however, if they stick with it, it can be rewarding.
Executives are flocking to golf in droves. During these times of economic downturn, many executives are stressed and seek relief on the course. This can have several advantages for the harried executive. The can use the course as relaxation time as well as deal-making time. Some executives have gone as far as making deals exclusively on the course.
Golf is a game for everyone. Young, old, and in between. It can be enjoyed with family, friends, or business associates. Buying accessories can be a fun hobby too.
