The Reason Why Golfing Can End Up Being Frustrating
Most weekend golfers wish they could play better, and often do practice hard but still play badly. There are a few consistent reasons this happens, and if they could be eliminated, then performance could be transformed.
We keep telling ourselves what not to do. Thinking as we stand over the ball, thoughts like not hitting it into the bunker, or the water, usually results in that very thing happening. All that is necessary is to turn it round, and say to ourselves, that we're going to hit this onto the green. It's all about positive self talk, not about thinking what could go wrong.
bad golf shots are about all a golfer remembers during a round. A mistake needs to be forgotten about especially when taking the same club out of the bag a few minutes later. Forget about what went before, it needs to be right to the back of the mind. Just learn from the error and move on to better things
Swinging a golf club shouldn't be something a golfer thinks about when playing. In fact it is a recipe for disaster. Don't try to analyse your swing, you've done it that way for years, and it almost certainly isn't the reason for a bad run of form. Just step up and hit the ball, don't think about it, just go and do it.
Bad luck can haunt a golf round. Everyone has been in the position when on the first hole a bad bounce sends the ball sideways into a gorse bush instead of straight onto the green. It is incredibly frustrating, and it is all too easy to start to think there must be something wrong with the way you are hitting the ball. Everything gets blamed, and before too long the whole round is ruined, and frustration boils over. Just don't let that happen, because bad luck will be followed by good fortune.
Don't get put off by watching someone play better than you, and then comparing yourself to him. It may be your partner who is playing badly, so just you play your best, be inspired, and if you do that and you still lose then at least you have lost with honour, and hopefully had fun. If you have lost to a better player hopefully you will have learned something
There's nothing more forbidding than the first tee at a strange golf club, with the clubhouse only feet away, a drinks terrace crowded outside, and everyone watching. Don't worry about it, you can guarantee sympathy for a bad shot as at least one of them will have made a mess of their shot on that very day.
There's very little on a golf course that can't be cured by keeping things simple. A truism is to simply keep your eye on the ball, and let someone else tell you where it went. You'll play good golf, and have a good time.
