Guidelines To Improve Golf Swing Performance

Golf can be broken down into two segments, the long game and the short game. To get better in golf, you will have to be proficient in both. If you cannot hit the ball far enough or with some degree of accuracy, a good short game will not do you any good. Being able to solidly hit the ball from the tee box and on the fairway is imperative to your golf course success. That is why it is important to practice to improve golf swing performance.

To improve upon your swing, your primary focus should be on practicing a consistent swing. Every time that you swing your club, it should be almost exactly the same as every other swing. You should maintain the same stance, swing speed, and grip. If you need to make adjustments for distance of difficult lies, the adjustments to your stance should be minimal.

To start working on your golf stance, begin with your arms and wrists. Golf is not baseball and you should only move you wrists slightly if at all. For the most part, your arms and wrists should stay relatively stiff. You should move your arms and hands around your body and not your body around your arms.

That means that you should be pivoting at the torso and legs. This is critical because your arms are harder to control and more susceptible to deviation. Your leg and torso muscles are much larger and easier to maintain control of.

A great golf swing begins with a good stance. Your stance should be the same every time you take a swing. Even if you are on ground that is not level, you should try to adjust your stance with your legs so that your body and arms are as close to your standard stance as possible. If you have to, adjust your body as well, but always try to avoid adjusting your arms.

The main focus of your stance is control and balance. This is known as your foundation. Keeping the exact degree of control during your swing without loosing balance ensures that you hit the ball, a relatively small target, at the exact same point every time that you swing. To maintain balance, most professional players keep their feet about six inches apart and make smooth, calculated swings.

You do not have to smack the ball as hard as you can to get good drives. Your swings should be smooth and fluid. It should almost feel effortless. The harder you swing, the less accurate your hits will be. The extra yardage you make with a powerful hit will be lost in decreased accuracy.

The fluidity of your swing should not end when you hit the ball. Following through after striking the ball is just as important as any other part of the swing. If you lose control of your swing during the follow through, chances are you will also lose control during the swing. Your swing is a full package deal, so you should work on it from start to finish.

Golf is not an easy sport to be proficient in. It takes a lot of hard work and practice to master your swing. If you are striving to be a proficient player, take some additional time to work on your swing and you will see dramatic improvements in your long game.
