Game changing putting drills your golf buddies dont want you to practice
Want to erase strokes from your score immediately? Practice putting drills! this might be the most universal area of struggle that can be easily practiced with speedy rewards.
Every golfer has had that melt down experience on the green at one time or another where an otherwise clean game goes down the toilet. Don't worry, your not alone, its really
Concentrate on the these 3 key putting drills:
Keep the face of the club square
Swing smoothly
Remain in control of your distance
Here is a drill to execute if you have a rough time with your club face opening or closing. Put a coin, ball, and tee on the green in a strait line toward the hole. Orient the coin 6 inches in front of the ball, and the tee one foot behind the ball. Now putt the ball bringing your club back and swing through the ball and over the coin, focusing on keeping the club face square as it moves over the coin.
Keeping a smooth swing throughout your putt is important for consistency in your putting game. This tip focuses on achieving just that. Again, set a ball on the green and press a tee in the ground one foot behind the ball. take the putter back until it taps the tee but this time make sure that you do not hesitate on your backswing but immediately swing threw on the ball. Don't forget to move your arms as a pendulum keeping your wrists firm.
The last of these putting drills is the distance control putting drill. Of course, there are numerous drills out there, but this drill is probably the best. Put down 5 tees, each one four feet apart. Place your ball next to the first marker and hit to each of the others in sequence. Of course, wait for the ball to stop and take your time to address the ball each time. During this drill your objective is to putt the ball to the next marker or just past, training yourself not to hit short while developing a feel for consistency. Since you are rapidly putting from one tee to the next, you are able to hit the ball while the feel of the last contact is still fresh in your mind. This gives you an advantage over hitting the ball into the cup, walking over, picking it up, putting it back down and setting up on the ball again.
These are only a few of the many putting drills out there. Embrace them and your short game will see large improvements. Just make sure to have fun while doing it. If it becomes discouraging find some new ones to try out, make up your own, or take a break and come back to them later.
