What to wear when playing golf.
In a perfect world, what you wear does not define you. In the real world however, especially in the golfing world - your golf clothing and attire is just as important as your putting skills. Okay fine, probably golf clothing is not AS important, but it is one of the success factors that all golfers should have. Golf is a very relaxing game, yet competitive game. Golfers take great pride in their game and revel in its exclusivity, thus clothing is just another way to prove this.
Wearing the right golf clothing not only makes you look presentable to the people you are playing with, but can also affect how well you play. Wearing the right golf clothing will put you in a confident state of mind, which will improve your play.
So what do golfers wear? Well, this depends on with whom and where you are playing. If you are playing a casual round of golf with your buddies at a local public course, then you do not have to dress up - a simple t shirt and cut off pants will suffice. However, if you are playing at a private golf country club, then you will have to stick to a strict dress code to keep up appearances. Usually when you are golfing with colleagues from office or your boss, you will do this at a private and exclusive country club - and these golf outings will require a more formal outfit.
So what is suitable formal wear when playing golf? You will have to wear a golf shirt with a collar, if you are playing in a private country club. T-shirts are a big no-no, which is probably why polo T-shirts were invented. Polo shirts are just as comfortable as a T-shirt, but have a collar.
You can wear shorts to go along with your golf polo t-shirt, just as long as they are designed for the course. The shorts cannot be too tight, and should be no shorter than just above your knees. Cut-offs and gym shorts are unacceptable, and denim apparel is not appropriate.
Wearing proper golf shoes is a must. You cannot wear running shoes or sandals. Country clubs now insist that all shoes should have soft spikes or a 'built into the sole' tread design - which means that traditional metal spikes are no longer allowed.
Wearing the right clothes is essential when playing golf. If you are unsure of what to buy, stick to branded golf wear, such as Nike golf clothing.
