Why Bother Watching A Golf Swing Video?
Golf is a sport, a physical activity that you take part in. It is great to watch a decent golf competition and follow the players' progress, see the amazing golf courses they get to play and the challenges they face, live on the TV or online. Even better if you can go and watch at the event and experience the atmosphere, as long as it isn't raining!
But what is the point in watching a video about a golf swing? How is watching a video going improve you golf game? Any problems with your swing are subconscious anyway so what good will a video do? Right?
Actually, no. A video can be really useful for pointing out things which you can't see on yourself when you are practicing. Videos capture the full body movement and you can pause and analyse the perfect golf swing from every angle, which you can't do when watching people. This can give you the perspective you need to see how the golfer in the video positions their body, swings the club and where they look during each phase of the swing and compare it against your own positioning and movement. You may not realise how important it is not to hold the club too tight, for example, or that you shouldn't add the power to the swing until the club is roughly parallel to the floor if you want to make an accurate drive.
It is obviously not very valuable to watch a video of any person's golf swing. It is best to watch videos of either golf pros, who teach golf for a living, or those of professional golfers who have consented to do a 'how to' type video. These will have all the footage that you need and usually the golfer demonstrating will have some handy tips for you, that you may not have considered before. It is also really interesting to get tips from your golfing hero and will help you remember them as you try to emulate 'that amazing drive' or 'that putt from the rough' that you witnesses on the TV.
The best way to improve your golf swing is undoubtedly through one-to-one lessons and practice. Unfortunately both of these things can be costly in terms of money and time. You can watch videos online during your lunch break, on the train or in the evenings and get those extra tips before you next hit the golf course to try them out.
