Points to consider when choosing your golf insurance policy
As is the case with all sports, golf comes with a risk of personal injury, and the potential to inflict harm upon a third party, (obviously not intentionally). Granted the risk of injury might not be as high as someone who snowboards but none the less the potential is there. Similarly there is always the risk of damaging your equipment, again this is not as likely to happen as it may be in other activities but the risk is there and golf clubs certainly don't come cheap. It quite surprising how many golfers fail to secure adequate insurance for their golfing holidays, it is as much as 90%. Obviously this doesn't really cause any issues provided there are no incidents, but as we all know 'what can go wrong will go wrong', so why put yourself in an awkward situation that can be avoided.
When looking for an insurance policy for your golfing trip you want to try to cover yourself for any possible eventualities (within reason of course, don't go buying something ridiculous like volcano insurance!) However, for those of us who aren't privileged enough to be unbound by the constraints of budgeting there is probably going to be a compromise. While you might not be able to afford coverage for all eventualities, you will be able to identify what coverage is going to be better suited to you and your holiday. For instance, if you're prone to hurting yourself or others around you then medical insurance could prove to be useful. Many insurance websites will make this customisation of your policy as straightforward as possible, some have sliders that you can simply move up and down depending how much you want to spend on each aspect of your policy.
The main aspects that you should consider when looking at insurance policies include coverage for theft, accidental damage, personal accident, personal liability, accidental damage, golf accidental damage to a third party and hole in one cover. Unfortunately regular insurance policies are not designed to protect you or a third party whilst playing golf. In fact in 1987 a UK court ruled that golfers can no longer rely on shouting 'fore' as a defence and for this reason it is of vital importance that you have the correct coverage.
Other points that it is worth considering when comparing policies include golf buggy insurance, golf club insurance, and new for old insurance. New for old does exactly what it says on the tin; if your clubs are lost or stolen then they will be replaced with the latest models. Before buying this type of insurance be sure to check that there isn't an age limit on equipment that they will accept.
