How to Win Every Junior Golf Event You Play
How would you like to win every single junior golf, college golf and professional event you ever play in?
Would you be interested?
What if I could guarantee it?
Interested now?
I am betting you are...
When I was making it up through from amatuer junior golf tournaments and my eyes set on the professional ranks, I was too often REALLY hard on myself as far as my expections of every single shot, round and tournament and was consistently moving the goal post of whatever goals I laid out prior to the event or season.
This win every time question was put to me several years ago and my response was I'm sure the same as yours:
"Definitely! Of course I want to win every junior golf and professional tournament I play in"
Do you know how it was possible?
The sports psychologist said:
"All you have to do is play against opponents who aren't as good as you
"Well duh..."If every golf tournament you play in, you make sure you enter events where the players are worse than you, then you will win every time"
"Why would I want to do that?" I said
"Well you want to guarantee you win don't you?"
"Not like that! It's no challenge or satisfaction in that," was my reply.
He said, "Exactly. So why do you get upset or frustrated when you don't win every time? The challenge is there and the very essence of competition is to compete against opposition at their best and who are equal or even better than you. That is when true triumph and satisfaction comes"
I was floored by how right he was.
From that moment on I saw tournament golf in an entirely different light.
That real champions are built from how they overcome the losses they face. Kyle Stanley did it just a few weeks ago very well. Tiger Woods in my opinion needed to regress to excite himself again about competition and challenge himself personally and against the opposition.
What would your reaction be to the sports psychologist's advice?
Would you still want to guarantee a junior golf win every time?
Become healthy, fit and strong by making mental strength and good thinking habits as well as exercise a part of developing your golf game. A decrease in your handicap, better scores in junior golf tournaments, confidence and consistency will prove that your commitment, discipline and dedication to practice, monitoring your play and exercise were well worth it.
Think about it carefully, as the saying goes: be careful what you wish for.
Happy losing;-)
