Davis Love III, a 20-year veteran of the tour, is one of the finest golfers America has ever produced, winning a number of majors and ranking number four on the all time money list. He has consistently ranked in the top ten of the world rankings since he left the University of North Carolina to join the PGA. Love has ridden one of the sweetest swings in all of golf, combined with a top-flight short game all the way to the highest echelons of golf.
Love struggled for years to shed the reputation of being unable to "win the big one" until he finally won his first major, taking the PGA Championship at Winged Foot in 1997. However, it is not as if he was an underachieving slouch up until taking his first major, having won the MCI Heritage Classic three separate times and taking a record four consecutive World Cup titles from 1992-1995. In addition, he is one of the most consistent golfers on the Tour; ranking near the top in top-ten finishes for the last decade.
Love's father, Davis Love jr., was a very well known golf-digest instructor, and he has cited his dad as one of the most profound influences in his life. He dedicated his book, Every Shot I Take to the senior Love, who died in a tragic plane crash in 1988. Davis the III and his wife Robin are married and reside in Sea Island, Georgia, where they are raising their two kids Alexia and Davis IV.
Love does not limit his interests to golf, generously contributing both his time and money to many worthy causes, most notably the Safe Harbor organization, for which he conducts a charity tournament every fall. He also is an avid fisherman and a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves and the UNC Tarheels, his alma mater. Davis Love is a shining example of what a mature, responsible athlete should be.
