Golf - Stretch Your Way To More Distance
Most everyone who watches golf on TV really enjoy watching the big hitters drive the golf ball. Pros like John Daly, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickleson, keep us glued to the TV screen when they hit their massive drives. Be honest, you secretly would like to hit the golf ball like that too! Well, by following these simple stretching exercise listed below, you too can begin hitting the golf ball much farther in a quick amount of time.
In order to immediately improve your golf game and especially your driving distance, you will need to stretch your golfing muscles on a consistent basis.
You may be asking yourself what is the difference between a simple golf stretch and an everyday stretch? That's a great question and the answer may lead you to having much more enjoyment in your golf game as well as a lot more driving distance with every golf club in your bag.
So, in order to stop all the years of aggravation and begin to immediately change your golf game you will need to start doing golf stretches on a daily basis. Yes, you heard me right. On a daily basis! But, don't worry, it's not as hard as you might think. You'll be spending only a few minutes each day doing them and the change in your golf game will occur quickly and dramatically. You can be assured that the return on your efforts will be well worth it.
What golf stretches work well? Which ones will give you the fastest results? That's really different in each individual case. We all have different limitations with our golf swing. Some are related to follow through while others may be backswing related. Still some may be with posture.
Here a couple of very good golf stretching exercises that will help you achieve increased driving distance from your swing. Another added benefit is that these exercises will help prevent back pain that is caused by all the twisting and turning from swinging the golf club.
1. The lying leg crossover exercise:
- Lie down on your back and extend your legs.
- Bring one leg up and bend your knee 90 degrees at your hip.
- Now cross your bent leg over your extended one and keep your opposite shoulder laying flat on the ground.
- Continue to crossover until you feel it pulling in your lower back.
- Next, switch over and do the opposite leg.
This very easy golf stretching exercise will really help to strengthen your back and make it feel better. More than that though, it will allow you to make a bigger turn. This will help you create more energy and added torque.
2. The backswing stretching exercise:
- Take your left arm and extend it out from you. (If you are left-handed you would use your right arm) - Put your right hand under your left wrist.
- Use your right hand that is against your left wrist and pull while making as big of a turn in your backswing as you possibly can.
- Keep your position for 15-20 seconds.
Do this twice and then do the opposite arm. This will help you with your follow through side.
What this golf exercise will do is to loosen up your muscles in the back of your shoulders and your upper back. This will allow you to have increased freedom on your backswing, as well as your follow through.
There are many other exercises that you can add to your routine as you go along. I would advise starting with these and add more later. If you will do these two simple golf stretching exercises on a daily basis you will see your golf game improve very quickly!
