Columbus Native to Compete in the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship

Kahmar Byers, a sixth grader at The Columbus Academy, has been competing in golf for several years now. An invitation to the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship, however, will be his biggest competition to date. Although he knows that the competition will be fierce, he is not concerned about the other young golfers. Kahmar had this to say about his impending competition: "It will be the best golfers in the world, but I was invited too, so I have just as good a chance of winning as anyone."  Kahmar knows that between his golf lessons, hitting practice and strength and conditioning, he is setting himself up to have a break out year.  

According to www.uskidsgolf.com, the U.S. Kids Golf World Championship is the largest and most prestigious event in the world for golfers aged 5 to 12, attracting hundreds of participants in the U.S. in addition to participants from over 30 countries around the world. The 2014 U.S. Kids World Championship will be held at the historic Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina. This impressive resort will also host the 2014 U.S. Men's Open. 

To get the invite, Kahmar won the U.S. Kids Golf Tour at Blackhawk Country Club, he won Player of the Year for the Fall 2013 Tour and medaled in 6 out of 8 events which qualified him for an automatic invitation to compete at the 2014 U.S. Kids World Championship. "Although he won, he knows that we have a lot of work to do because complacency can have a negative effect on performance, and the World Championship is another level of performance" states Kahlil Byers, father of Kahmar. Prior to his victory at Blackhawk, Kahmar won first place at the U.S. Kids Golf Tour at Thornapple Country Club and Timberview Golf Club. He contributes a lot of his recent success to starting a strength and conditioning program at The Spot Athletics, located in Columbus, Ohio.  

This is an exciting time for not only Kahmar but for golf fans in general as the sport has risen to new levels of popularity. Youth golfing, in particular, is gaining more and more favor with this year's U.S. Kids World Championship being the largest junior golf event for the seventh consecutive year. Although this rise in popularity is great for the sport it means that Kahmar will be faced with more and more competition as he progresses through the ranks. I don't think he is concerned though: "I love golf, I want to see more people golfing, but I also know that I will work harder than the other players and that will get me to the top."
