The US PGA has made a big decision that they and the Asian Tours would jointly announced a multi-year deal to co-sanction the Malaysia Asia Pacific Golf Classic next year. And this has become true. For what reasons, we don’t know yet. Maybe they think Asia is a place with great potential.
The dates for next year's event have yet to be finalized but the event is expected to be staged late in the year at the Mines Resort and Golf Club and will carry total prize money of $6 million.
The top 25 players from the year-end US PGA tour standings and the top 10 available players from the Asian Tour money list will automatically be given tee-off times in the 40-man field.
"This is indeed very exciting for the PGA Tour to be able to venture into Southeast Asia," US PGA Tour vice president of business development Matt Rapp said in the statement. And southeast Asia has great potential for burgeoning growth in golf and we are extremely pleased to take this significant first step into the marketplace.
The US PGA Tour were one of a number of co-sanctioning bodies of the first WGC (World Golf Championship) event in Asia - this year's WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai - but the prize money for it did not count towards the players' tour rankings. This will not be the case for the Malaysia Classic. However, this will not be the case for the Malaysia Classic.Â
