Nike Stands By Tiger

Although the fact that Tiger Woods has taken an 'indefinite' break and remains unsure of how long it will take him to deal with personal problems, Nike have confirmed their intention of continuing to stand steadfast behind him. 

The brand president of the sporting goods giant, Charlie Denson, told Associated Press on Thursday that Nike would prefer that the troubled world's number one golfer stay away from competitive golf and public appearances until he has managed to sort out his private life. 

Woods' life away from the golf course has been in the public spotlight since a bizarre car crash outside his Orlando home last November sparked a series of allegations that he had committed adultery with as many as 19 women. 

Woods has been in rehab for the past several weeks, receiving treatment which he hopes will save his marriage and last week he publicly apologized for his behaviour to his family, colleagues, friends and the public at large at the PGA Tour's head-quarters at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. 

Nike are backing Woods all the way according to Denson.

"He's got issues he needs to deal with and he's dealing with them. We are looking forward to him getting back on the golf course." Denson said. 

Nike's $650 million golf division has been one of its hardest-hit during the global recession, but Nike are not deviating from their initial stand-point that they would remain loyal to one of the world's most famous sportsmen of all time. 

AT&T and Accenture have dropped their sponsorships of Woods and others like Gillette and Swiss watch maker Tag Heuer have taken him out of their current advertising and marketing campaigns.

Woods said last week that he had spent 45 days in treatment and because he expected to undertake additional therapy, he did not want to make any hard and fast comment about his return to the professional circuit.
