When playing golf at your local or municipal golf course you may develop a feel for the course, almost knowing it like the back of your palm. Over time you may begin to feel slightly jaded with the course, especially if the course owners do not restructure or alter the difficulty of the course regularly. The desire to test your skills at new courses will eventually mean you want to visit other golf clubs.
Playing at other courses in the nearby area can be hit or miss depending on how close you are to any of them. Scotland is particularly well known for its golf courses but throughout the UK there are many golf courses in countryside areas, even shorter 9 hole courses. We are fortunate that the UK is home to some of the best and most historic golf courses in the world.
The regularity with which some of Golf's biggest events are held in the UK whether it be The Ryder Cup or The Open means that there are many world class golf courses at our disposal but many of them may be considered more exclusive than others. This merely means it may be slightly harder to get a game at short notice and some of the championship courses may require booking specific times to play a round.
Booking a tee time is common place for many golf club members but with championship courses like St. Andrews and Royal Birkdale you may need to plan your game a few months in advance, especially around peak times such as the Summer months and during the lead up or aftermath of a big tournament.
Getting a game on some of these courses may be made simpler by booking a golf trip staying at hotels adjoined with the golf course. Many of these golf courses are a part of a golfing resort and a part of booking into their hotel can often include one or two complimentary rounds of golf. This is thought of as a good way for golfers to get on to some of the more prestigious courses without long waits or expensive costs.
Making sure you are on time to any reserved tee time is vitally important in golf. If you've ever played golf and someone has held you up because they were too slow then you'll understand how golfers can grow tired of standing around. If you're late to teeing off then there's a good chance you'll miss your turn and have wasted a lot of time on the waiting list!
Playing on new courses, especially professionally designed and famous courses featured in golf tournaments can certainly rejuvenate your interest in the sport as well as test your skills in new environments, conditions and course layout too.
