Engineered to bring golfers maximum forgiveness, the Rapture V2 iron relies on multi-metal technology to launch the ball longer, higher and with more accuracy. A dense tungsten sole weight positions the center of gravity low and away from the face to optimize the launch conditions. An innovation made possible by the lightweight titanium face that frees weight for where it's needed most—low and on the perimeter.

The high launch angle allows for stronger lofts so golfers can generate greater distance without sacrificing control. The Custom Tuning Port stabilizes the titanium face to help ensure a solid feel and consistency.

AWT Steel Shaft

Ascending Weight Technology shafts are designed to have lighter long irons for increased club head speed and higher trajectory and heavier short irons for boring ball flight and optimal ball control.

TFC 939i Shaft

Ultra-premium graphite shaft designed by ping specifically for the Rapture V2 line. This shaft line is engineered with ultra lightweight materials and features progressive weight, flex point and torque profiles for each flex designed to maximize the performance for its expected player profile. The design features combine to create a shaft line that delivers higher club head speed, optimal launch conditions and enhanced control, consistency and feel for golfers of all skill levels. It is also the first graphite shaft line ever to feature AWT.

Category: Max Game-Improvement Irons
We tested: 3-PW, UW with Ping TFC 939i graphite shaft

Company line: "Multi-metal technology allows us to create an iron that launches higher, straighter shots. The dense tungsten sole weight lowers the center of gravity, while the lightweight titanium face increases ball speed. This design lets all player types hit longer shots with maximum forgiveness."

Our Testers say:
PROS: One of the top performers in the max gameimprovement category; long irons are easy to hit, almost like hybrids; smooth feel at impact; excellent stability; wedges are useful for short shots around the greens; ball flight is predictable and typically high; at address the game-improvement design features disappear; several testers will consider buying it.

CONS: Testers want more feedback on off-center hits; not the greatest looking package due, in part, to the odd shaft color.

From Golf Magazine (Buyer's Guide, May 2009)
It's for: All skill levels

It's for: Golfers seeking max-game-improvement technology

Brad Schweigert, manager/golf club designer: "We don't typically make more distance a goal when engineering irons. But we did with Rapture V2. We strengthened lofts, but more importantly, used the density of the tungsten sole weight to position the center of gravity low and farther back. This increased the club's launch angle and MOI."

How it works: The V2 has a stainless steel body, titanium face and tungsten sole. The major change between the original Rapture and the Rapture V2 is the weight (and location) of a dense tungsten plug.(Ping K15 Series) In Rapture V2, the 45- to 70-gram plug (lightest in long irons, heaviest in short) is positioned in the broad sole. By contrast, the Rapture has a 25-gram plug in the toe area of the cavity.

Performance-wise, V2 launches shots higher and provides more head stability (4 percent higher MOI). Higher launch enables Schweigert and friends to strengthen lofts (by 1.5 degrees) and bolster carry distance. A larger tuning port (in the deeper cavity) should aid feel. TFC939i shafts are lighter in long irons to increase head speed, and heavier in short irons to enhance control.
