Inaugural Faldo Series Poland Championship proves a success

The Faldo Series arrived in Poland last week for the inaugural Faldo Series Poland Championship held at Toya Golf and Country Club, in Wroclaw, on 18th ?19th August 2009, Challenge Tour venue for this week抯 Wroclaw Open.

Being organised in conjunction with the Polish Golf Union, the tournament featured some of the best young golfing talent from the country, both boys and girls. Following 36-holes of tournament golf played over two days, the results of the event have confirmed which players will receive an invite to the Faldo Series Grand Final being held in Rio de Janeiro later this year. Nick Faldo will host the event at which players will have the opportunity to learn something of the experiences that the six-time Major winner has amassed over more than 30 years of playing tournament golf at the very highest level.

As part of the Faldo Series?commitment to combining top level competition with golf-specific education, all of the players and invited local coaches received access to seminars and one-on-one tutelage with Faldo抯 own coach and long time supporter of the Faldo Series, Keith Wood. In addition, local schoolchildren were also invited to attend the tournament to receive an introduction to the sport, many for the first time, and spend time with Wood and the Faldo Series team.

The tournament was won by 15 year-old Tomasz Lepka whose two under par 36-hole total of 142 was enough to seal victory over the championship course at Toya Golf and Country Club. Joining Tomasz in Rio will be 16 year-old Adrian Meronk who produced the lowest score of the week with a second round 65 (-7).http://www.bestsellinggolf.net/

The kids had a chance to take part in the clinic conducted by Keith and learned a lot from his experience. I am happy that six of the best Polish juniors will join some great players of their age and try to match them in the final in Brazil. We are looking forward to this event next year. Moriya, who speaks a little English, said that the sisters have improved their mental attitude since last year抯 Finnish tournament. 揙ur attitude to the game has become more relaxed,?she said. The sisters?tournament schedule remains busy but they study their school work for at least four hours a day, accompanied by their parents and a journalist from the Thai Ministry of Education.

Leading the way for the professionals will be Becky Brewerton of Wales, who starred at last week抯 Solheim Cup, earning two points for Team Europe. Brewerton finished equal seventh at the 2008 Finnair Masters but enters this year抯 tournament in a rich vein of form, in fifth position on the LET抯 Henderson Money List, having won the recent Open de Espana Femenino.

Norway抯 Marianne Skarpnord, the Deutsche Bank Ladies Swiss Open champion ranked fourth in Europe, returns revitalised after a two week break from competitive action.

They are joined by two more of this year抯 tournament winners: Jade Schaeffer, the HyproVereinsbank Ladies German Open champion and Sweden抯 Johanna Westerberg, the Portugal Ladies Open winner ranked eighth and 10th on the Henderson Money List respectively. The action begins at 8.30am on Friday.
