Golfers around the world are vulnerable to risk. Such risks include a lot of issues, whether physical, emotional or financial. Granted, a golfer’s risks are not as severe as those in other sports, but the risks are there and all golfers should consider them.
The physical risks are the highest type there is for golfers, because when you are playing frequently you are also using the same motions repetitively. If you think about it, everyone has their own style when playing golf but for the most part it is very similar. Take for instance a person’s swing; you follow through with your shoulders instead of with your hips and at the same time gripping the club strongly, and striking the ball.
If a golfer constantly swings like this over time it will cause damage to certain areas. They may develop shoulder tendonitis, back problems or the ever common golfer’s elbow. What do you do then? If these areas do get damaged, you will not be able to play or if you can you will not be the golfer that you once were. One way to prevent this is by warming up before you start to play, just a few stretches to loosen up the muscles and then playing can help to prepare your body for golf but also avoid these problems too.
The people most vulnerable to these problems would be people over the age of 55, because at this age a person will not have as much strength or endurance as people who are younger. Therefore, people over this age should make sure to stretch as the last thing he or she wants is to be stuck in bed for a few days because they pulled a muscle while playing golf. An even worse thing that could happen to someone most commonly over the age of 55 is a hip injury. A hip injury could result in a hip transplant, which will cost the person money and time from being in hospital.
It has been proven that 4 out of 5 golfers will suffer from lower back pain at some point due to several different factors such as the way in which you swing, not being in good physical shape and playing sporadically, all of which cause the muscles to constrict and loosen up too much in one period of time. So, put simply, golf does have a risk, but it is mainly a physical risk.
