When it comes to driving a lot of teenagers think they are invincible. Nothing at all is going to take place to them. However, headlines and images have proved this assumption to be fake. As an alternative of spending consideration to their driving, several teenagers are chomping on burgers, fiddling with the radio, moving in time to new music, and even drag racing.
Teen driving impacts American society. “No other issue affects the safety of our kids much more than driving,” says the Teen Driving Council. In accordance to the council, a teen is injured in a auto crash “an typical of each 55 seconds.” This is a sobering statistic and it is specially sobering for my husband and me.
We are raising our twin grandkids soon after their parents have been killed in a separate vehicle crashes. However our grandkids are good drivers, they are teen drivers, and want frequent security reminders.
In 2007 the AAA challenged dad and mom to “keep the keys” from teen drivers right upuntil they signed a mother or father-teen agreement. The AAA formulated a parent-agreement, which could be obtained from any office. The contract is comparable to Colorado Division of Transportation “Mother or father/Teen Driving Agreement.” I agree with all of the guidelines on the Colorado contract. Teenagers should:
* comply with the state law for passenger restrictions
* obey all site visitors laws
* usually carry a license and insurance coverage papers
* constantly use a seat belt
* make positive passengers wear seat belts
* meet curfews
* inform mother and father [grandparents] of modifications in ideas/destinations
* by no means use alcohol when driving or experience with a person who has
* not drive if they are upset/emotional
* not drive if they are genuinely tired
Distractions are the main lead to of teen driving accidents. The Colorado “Father or mother/Teen Driving Agreement” says teens will not chat on a cell mobile phone or communication even though driving, will not et although driving, will not adjust the radio or CD although driving, will not use a headset even though driving, and will not let any passenger “horseplay.”
Our grandkids share a vehicle, but they often borrow my husband’s automobile or mine. My auto is three decades previous and even now seems brand new due to the fact I take treatment of it. I want to keep it looking new so I additional a few additional policies to my verbal grandparent-teen agreement.
1. Throw absent any trash (bags, receipts, lists, and so on.) that have accumulated.
2. Return the driver’s seat and mirrors to original settings.
3. Flip the radio back again to its original setting.
four. Tell me when the automobile wants windshield fluid.
five. Inform me when the gas gauge reads fifty percent total.
6. Check out the tire stress every so typically.
seven. No nagging about the ten p.m. curfew.
eight. Return keys immediately.
I want my grandkids to comply with these guidelines so they understand how to take care of a car and on their own. Driving provides teenagers a lot of independence. But like all independence, it calls for obligation and judgment. That is what risk-free driving is all about.
