Spring is in the air and golf is on your mind. You're itching to head out to the club with your best buds and play a few rounds. But before you set foot on those greens, you need to do a little bit of warming up. Nothing is worse than being all pumped up about the game only to get out there and totally blow it on the first nine holes. By the second nine you're in the groove. Why - because now you're warmed up.
So very often players hurry to get out there and do their thing with the guys without ever warming up. This is actually a common routine for most players. If you happen to be one of those slackers, here are a few tips that just might help prevent you from getting "teed off" about your performance.
First of all, make it a practice to get to the course 30 to 60 minutes before your actual tee time. This will give you enough time to physically warm up. Getting there early means you don't have to rush around signing in, changing your shoes and so on, This will definitely help you to be more relaxed and calm emotionally, and we all know how big of a role emotions play in a golf game.
Spend about 15 minutes on the driving range. Practice your stance, and your swing. This will loosen you up and help you get focused for those long drives. Once you get your blood to pumping, head on over to the putting green. Here you need to spend a little extra time. Since putting is a major part of your game, you need to spend at least 15 minutes practicing. This will help you mentally to get the feel and the rhythm of your swing etched into your memory so that when it's time for that all important putt, it's second nature to you.
Warming up before you play a round really does make a difference. It will not only improve your overall game, but give you more confidence as well. So, next time you plan to meet up with the guys, get there a little early. You'll be amazed at what a difference a little warming up will make to your game.
