The "R&A Rules" status of the amateur golfer is a player who plays the game as a non-remunerative. The prize money or gifts the amateur golfer receives are limited to a retail value of 250/$500. If the amateur golfer receives prize money in excess of this amount, they then forfeit their amateur status and become professional.
