How to Turn Your Golf Cart into a Snow Plow in Three Easy Steps

2016/7/19 16:22:00

The golf clubs may be hung on a hook in the garage this winter, right next to the snow shovel. You can keep them both hanging there all winter with a few simple mail order golf cart parts.

Snow blowers work two slow feet at a time and blow half of the snow back on your driveway or your neighbors. Big, truck plow blades are a hassle to get on and off, they are impossible to get into tight spaces and they can be hard on your truck's suspension if left on for extended periods of time.

Pulling your golf cart out of summer storage and enlisting it in plowing duties is a fast and fun way to clear your driveway. Golf carts are big enough to clear a driveway in minutes and small enough to reach every corner and still enable you to park your car in the garage.

Follow these three easy steps to turn your golf cart into a snow removal machine:

Step 1: Select the right parts and accessories

There are more and more snowplow parts and accessories out there for golf carts. Make sure you buy the proper parts for your brand of cart - Club Car, EZGO or Yamaha. Getting brand-specific parts and accessories (when available) is going to simplify installation and generally work better in the long run.

There are a lot of ways to winterize your buggy, so you may also want to consider wind shields, enclosures, heaters and snow tires/chains.

Step 2: He who procrastinates will shovel

As stated before, these plows are not too difficult to install, provided you get the right equipment for your brand. With that said, it's always best to get the feel of your golf cart with the blade on front; and understand how to raise and lower the blade. One simple test drive can often times be the difference between a 10-minute driveway clearing or getting your cart stuck in a snow drift.

Step 3: Wait like a kid before Christmas for the next blizzard

It's true; one of the hardest parts of the whole process is waiting for the first snow. We often get letters from our snow-plow converts telling us how they plowed half the neighborhood's driveways on the first good snow. Once the initial fun wears off, you can enlist your kids or neighborhood kids to take over plowing duties. Kids love playing in the snow and driving golf carts, so you may never have to bother with snow removal again.

Transforming your snow pushing monster back into a cart-path legal golf cart is usually as simple a pulling a single bolt or pin. This is just one of the many ways people are customizing and enhancing their golf carts to do more. Who knew that pushing snow could be so much fun.
