Exploring the Voltage Details of a Golf Buggy Battery

Whenever you use an electric golf cart or buggy, the powerhouse or the battery is certainly the most taken-for-granted component. However, it is extremely important to understand a battery and maintain it in surplus stock for ensuring a more durable life of your buggy. Moreover, the cost of batteries is not that cheap and that it has recently increased by at least 7%. Therefore, it is now even more vital to know and understand the battery well.
As known, a battery is a power tank that renders energy in the form of electricity. It is usually rechargeable and the power within exists in the form of chemical energy. Technically, this powerhouse is made up of multiple parts namely, case, lead, separators, positive and negative plates, cells, and sulfuric acid. There is much more to the battery than what it appears to be, but it is not possible to go into that depth here. Therefore, let us restrict to these basic parts only, which is enough for an overall knowledge of the battery.
A golf buggy battery is composed of several cells, each of which has a minimal voltage reading of nearly 2.12 volts. This means that having four cells in a series will give almost 8v battery. You can get the voltage rating of a battery by multiplying the number of cells with 2.12v. It should be noted that a few manufacturers offer 2.11v per cell, which means the nominal voltage can vary. The battery generates electrical energy as amperage and voltage. While amperage is the quantity of current, voltage is the units of the current's pressure.
The resistance makes the voltage to move the current, which is generated by the drive motor and other components. For example, if the motor needs 120 amps for running the vehicle from the battery, it is actually asking the right voltage to push the quantity of amperage to the motor. However, the motor also needs to be of the same voltage. Here, 1 ampere is the current forced though a resistance of 1 ohm by a pressure of 1 volt.
Apart from delivering voltage or amperage, the golf buggy battery also ensures that this delivery is for a sustained period. This is what is termed as the capacity or ampere-hours. For example, in case of a lead acid battery, the hour rating is referred to as amps X time. It is important to know this because if a battery is incompatible to a system, the run time will be shorter and the risk of component damage can increase. This is evident when you replace six batteries each of 6v with three batteries of 12v.
