The best golf course in Spain is located in Sotogrande (C醖iz). Considered as one of the best golf courses in Spain and all Europe, it is the best surrounding to practice golf.
In 1974 it was opened under the name of "Las Aves" and the design of its courses was demanded to one of the best golf course designers of the world: Robert Trent Jones. To the prestige of its designer, it followed the presence in its course of the professional golfer Sir Henry Cotton - a well-known English golfer for having won three Open Championships. However, in 1985 the golf club was acquired by Jaime Pati駉 Ortiz who changed its name and called it "Valderrama". Being then Pati駉 the owner of the club, its prestige considerably increased and became known as one of the best golf courses in Europe.
Many important tournaments have taken place within its walls: the Volvo Masters (between 1988 and 1996, and 2002 to 2008); the Ryder Cup in its edition from 1997 with Seve Ballesteros as its winner and the first Ryder Cup in which Tyger Wood participated. Also, the Amez World Championship during two years (1999 and 2000); and the Andaluc韆 Masters between 2010 and 2011, considered as an important appointment in terms of golf tournaments in Europe. This is also why many professional golfers use its courses to practice their techniques before other important tournaments that happen to take place in some other golf courses distributed all around the world.
