Golf in Denver is different than golf almost anywhere else for a few important reasons. With elevations at about 7,000 feet you will find that your ball will go much further due to the thinner air at that elevation. Another aspect of the thin air is that your ball will not have the same spin that it does at lower elevations. Then there's the stamina factor if you're not a local. You will find breathing to be more difficult without doing anything strenuous, and walking the courses that see elevation changes over 18 holes of 200 to 400 feet will seriously wear you out. Take a cart when you play golf in Denver, and save your strength for the shot making you'll need to land the greens.
Our first featured course to play golf in Denver is The Ridge At Castle Pines North. This beautifully designed Tom Weiskopf course is a par 71, over 7,000-yard long, test of your abilities with a slope of 134 from the black tee. To say this course is beautiful is an understatement, but then again most golf in Denver boasts beautiful scenery on almost every hole.
Vista Ridge Golf Club is, as the name implies, one of those courses to which you should bring a camera. The vistas are spectacular, the course is long (nearly 7,500 feet from the black tee), and offers both challenge and rewards for golfers of every level. You can miss your tee shots a little here since the fairways are somewhat wide, but beware of the many bunkers and water hazards. With five different sets of tees offering slopes of 115 to 138, this Jay Morrish designed course will appeal to beginners and pros alike. Green fees are under $100 during the week and on weekends.
Our last featured course on which to play golf in Denver is the par 72, Arthur Hills designed, Heritage Eagle Bend Golf Course. This is a very forgiving and inexpensive course for the bogey golfers to feel good about themselves. Trees are dotted around the course but virtually never come into play on this slope 129 from the longest tee. There are several other wonderful courses in the Denver area, which will generally cost you between $35 and $120. Some of our other recommended courses are the Arrowhead Golf Club, Omni Interlocken Resort and the Inverness Resort.
