Mastering golf swing mechanics can be one the most difficult things to do in all of sports, especially if you do not understand the elements of a good golf swing. There is really only one way to correctly swing a golf club--it is a universal standard that every good golfer follows. If you watch professional golfers strike the ball, they all use the exact same technique to send it straight and true. The core elements of golf swing mechanics are the grip, body positioning, a pendulum swing, and the follow through.
Before you ever line up to hit a ball, the first thing you need to do is learn the correct way to grip a club. In the interest of simplifying things, we will approach this from the standpoint of a right-handed golfer. The left hand should wrap around the end of the club, with your left index finger interlacing your right pinky. Your right hand should also wrap around the club, with its thumb resting slightly to the left of the shaft.
After you have correctly got your hands wrapped around the issue of the grip, the next step is to learn how to properly position your body. In order to maximize your shot efficiency, you must do two things: stand correctly, and juxtapose yourself with the ball properly. When you sidle up to the ball, your feet must be shoulder-width apart, with the ball perfectly dissecting your body. This method will allow your body to remain in perfect balance as you strike the ball, ensuring a smooth swing devoid of frustrating hooks or slices.
When you are actually swinging the club, there is no need to cock your club back and try to smash the ball as hard as you can. No, you must strive for a perfect pendulum swing, bringing your club back in a smooth motion that is matched in speed and tempo on the downswing. This is one of the most important aspects of golf swing mechanics, for the urge to pound the ball is the downfall of many a golfer.
