How To Improve Your Golf Putting Skills

The most important thing to improve your golf game is to improve your putting skills. No matter how good you are at swinging the ball, but you are not winning if you are not able to put the ball perfectly. Although improving your putting skill may look difficult if you are a newbie, but slowly and steadily working on minor things can improve your putting skills. All you need to do is figure out your problem area and then work hard on that aspect until you master those skills.
Obviously, you will need to practice a lot to improve, but the exact skills which need to be practiced vary from person to person. To get the best out of you, you need to specially focus on three main things. The first thing is, you need to have proper swing so that when you hit the ball from your club, the contact of the ball should be exactly in the center of the club head. This is the basic and most important factor in determining the accuracy of your putting. If you are not able to do so, you will never excel in your putting. A straight shot can never be expected if you are hitting it from the side of the club head. Even if you practice a lot of putting but the basic i.e. the impact of the club and ball is not right, you will never be able to succeed and will always be disappointed with yourself.
After you have worked on the above skill to hit the ball from the center of the club you need to make sure that you hit the ball in a straight line to the target. There are expectations such as the slope being too much to affect the ball path and also the distance between the hole and the ball, which can be practiced through experience. But before that you need to practice to hit it straight towards the target. Even if you are off by a small proportion, it can greatly alter your putting skills as the ball will always miss the hole by a whisker.
The last skill which you need to work on to improve your putting is accelerating the club when you are actually coming in contact with the ball. Many player actually slow down when they are about to hit the ball, thinking that it will result in more accuracy, however this is not correct. You will always be short from target if you slow down you club at the time of impact. Make a conscious effort to not slow down the speed while hitting the ball. You will find it a bit uncomfortable at the beginning but ultimately when you perfect this skill, you will definitely see improvement in your putting.
There is one more basic thing which I would like to add about putting. We have talked about things related to club impact and speed but the most important thing to begin with, is your arm movement. Make sure that your arm is left free for swing and the movement comes from shoulders and not arms like a pendulum.
