Why wet clothes are not ironed?

There are a few reasons why it's not advisable to iron wet clothes:

1. Damage to Fabric: Ironing wet clothes can cause damage to the fabric. When water is present, the fabric fibers become more delicate and susceptible to tearing or stretching. The high heat of the iron can also cause the fibers to weaken, leading to premature wear and tear.

2. Uneven Drying: Wet clothes don't dry evenly when ironed. The areas that are in direct contact with the iron may dry quickly, while the rest of the garment remains damp. This can result in an uneven finish and potentially cause the fabric to wrinkle more easily.

3. Steam Build-up: When wet clothes are ironed, the moisture in the fabric turns into steam. This can create excessive steam buildup, which can be dangerous and cause burns if the steam comes into contact with your skin or face.

4. Electrical Safety: Wet clothes can conduct electricity, which poses a risk of electrical shock when using an iron. The electrical current can pass through the water and reach the user, especially if the iron has any exposed wires or faulty insulation.

5. Iron Soleplate Damage: Ironing wet clothes can also damage the iron itself. The steam generated from the wet fabric can cause rust or corrosion on the soleplate of the iron, reducing its lifespan and affecting the quality of ironing in the future.

It's always better to let wet clothes dry completely before ironing them. This ensures that the fabric remains safe and undamaged, and the ironing process is efficient and effective.
