What are wellie sticks?

Wellie sticks are walking poles, staffs or sticks used while wearing Wellington boots. They have metal or plastic spikes at their ends to improve traction on slippery mud, snow, or ice, and are often adjustable to different lengths.

They help hikers negotiate muddy or slippery terrain, and keep the wearer from sinking too deeply into soft mud or snow. Some have been designed to be foldable, enabling them to be carried when they're not needed.
