IT’S ALMOST the end of the rivers season in England and Wales and top angling coach Dave Harrell has teamed up with Angler’s Mail to give you these final pointers.
Here the twice Angler’s Mail-Kamasan Matchman of the Year reveals his top three tips for YOUR final session on the rivers…
“1. Most rivers are in perfect trim at present and the fish are hungry so take plenty of bait with you!
2. If you’re targeting species like chub and roach, float fished baits work better than static now that the water temperature is up.
3. If barbel are your quarry, fish as late into the day as possible as they feed better in the last three or four hours of daylight.”
Dave’s been active on the banks himself, and here we see a pupil, Shaun Court, who had an end of season to remember on the River Wye – surely the river of the season.
Chub up to 6 lb were a feature in a 50 lb catch, all on waggler tactics with maggot feed and hookbait.
A delighted Shaun said: ‘It was the best fishing day I have ever had!
‘I’ve caught my personal best chub and had my best ever river bag at the same time!
‘The day was brilliant. I have already booked another day with Dave in the summer to learn more about barbel fishing. I can’t wait!’ added Shaun.
