Too Many Walleyes?

Every fishing trip builds with great anticipation and excitement. How many fish, how big, and what stories will be told.

On a recent fishing trip to Crow Duck Lake Camp in Manitoba Canada the walleye fishing was simply, incredible!

In this lake it is no exaggeration to say that you will catch over 100 walleyes per person, per day. I felt like I was a kid again catching bluegills with a worm and a bobber. But these fish were real quality walleyes! Jigging with a salted minnow or Berkley Gulp caught most of the walleyes. When using the Gulp, white was the best color followed by Chartreuse. Minnows come in handy when the fishing is a little slower, but as fast as the bite was, there was no need.

The most impressive thing about this camp wasn't just the numbers but also the size. The average Crow Duck lake walleye was 21 inches. Impressive!

As fish after was was being pulled in I wondered, when I go home and the fishing is back to reality, will I enjoy it as much after being spoiled. My fishing skills with each fish definitely improved and now when it is "back to reality" at home, I will have the refined skills to do a better job hooking old marble eyes".

So, the trip will become a great memory, as most fishing trips do, but with all of the fish that were caught, the lasting memory of how to be a better walleye fisherman at home will become the best part of the trip.
