Jones Beach Fishing Station report April 30th. It was a fine week of mixed bag activity along the piers and nearby areas. Earlier in the week Station Chef Vic bagged a 5.7-pound chopper. On the same day Construction Eddie bagged a 14-inch flounder, Bobby Feather had a huge blowfish and Pete worked the Construction Dock for an 8-pound blue. On Wednesday Bill Sullivan of Guides Choice bagged a keeper flattie. Capt. Ed and Vic went out on Ed?s boat on Thursday and started out by tossing tins and plugs at the inlet for 9 blues to 8-pounds. Then they set up in Reynolds Channel and clam chummed a keeper bass. Also on Thursday, Danny the Tile Guy and Funnyman Steve had 2 flounder each. In spite of high winds on Friday Danny the Tile Guy hauled in 2 keeper flatties and released a 26-inch bass. Vic had a battle with 5 choppers and landed 3 to 8-pounds. After closing the shop Ed dropped a line and bagged a 15-inch flattie. Paul Caredes had success at the Construction Dock by landing 4 blues on jigs. Mike and Rock targeted choppers on Saturday and landed 3 to 10-1/4 pounds. They also caught and released a 4-pound fluke. Aaron Goldfried fished from the pier for a 3-1/2 pound blue while Funnyman Steve had a 2-1/2 pound flattie. Ed noted that from Friday to Saturday over 25 blues were taken along the piers and that?s the best early season showing in three seasons. On Sunday action slowed down with only 2 blues caught and Bernie bagging 2 keeper flatties. The station will be stocked with live killies as of Saturday as well as mussels, clam chum, clams, spearing, squid and worms.
