Can pictus catfish live through the winter?

Pictus catfish are a tropical species of fish that are native to the Amazon River basin in South America. As such, they are not adapted to live in cold climates and will not be able to survive the winter in most parts of the world.

Pictus catfish require warm water temperatures in order to survive, with an ideal range of 75-86°F (24-30°C). In the wild, they live in slow-moving, warm rivers and streams with dense vegetation. When the temperature drops below this range, pictus catfish will become stressed and may eventually die.

In addition to the temperature requirements, pictus catfish also require a high level of oxygen in the water in order to breathe. If the oxygen level in the water drops too low, pictus catfish will become stressed and may eventually die.

For these reasons, pictus catfish are not suitable for outdoor ponds or aquariums in cold climates. If you live in a cold climate and are interested in keeping pictus catfish, you will need to provide them with a heated aquarium that can maintain the proper temperature and oxygen levels.
