How long can a freshly caught fish sit out before you cook it?

Fish should be cooked as soon as possible after it is caught. If this is not possible, the fish should be stored on ice in a cooler. Fish can safely be stored on ice for 1 to 2 days, but the sooner it is cooked, the better the quality will be.
