Often referred to as "Uchida Craw" (Signal Crayfish) by the lure's creator, Yuki Ito, the MEGABASS X-DAD crankbait was designed to imitate a craw in typical MEGABASS detail.
Designed to suspend to depths of 10ft, the X-DAD's elongated lip is designed to gently deflect off bottom structure, triggering strikes with each roll, bump and deflection. Being a suspending bait, the X-DAD is tuned to suspend in a nose down position, imitating a feeding crayfish flawlessly. On certain colors, the MEGABASS X-DAD comes equipped with durable feathers to imitate a crawfish's antennae.
The MEGABASS X-DAD displays its true potential with a stop & go retrieve, where the bat will pause nose down. Concentrating on depths less than 10 feet deep and or containing hard structure like wood and rocks, the X-DAD will be at its best deflecting effectively off the cover and bottom triggering strikes. In clear water situations the X-DAD can be used in a finesse manner with light fluorocarbon triggering bites from the tightest lipped fish.
For a setup when fishing I gravitate toward the more finesse side, selecting a medium power rod that is 6'9" to 7'2" in length and built with a moderate fast action so the rod will absorb the deflections on the cover making the bait snag less often. A 5.5:1 200 size reel spooled with 10 lb fluoro and up to 14 lb in heavier cover will complement this package nicely. Just remember the thicker the line, the less depth the bait will reach.
There is no doubt that the MEGABASS X-DAD is a perfect representation of what the company stand for and designs... when cold front situations or gin clear waters are your primary concern, give the X-DAD a try, it's as lifelike as it gets and will fool the smartest fish you're after!
