Southeast Florida - Week 2 Report - May 2012

Offshore on the troll Kingfish, bonito and blackfin tuna were in 80-240 with bare and skirted ballyhoo, strip baits and aritificials producing good results. Cobia were scattered in the shallower ranges. Dorado were further out, in 500 feet and deeper. On the east side of the stream, around the bahamas yellowfin tuna were being caught. Sailfish were in 110- 130 taking live baits, with goggle eyes being their favorite. On the reefs and wrecks, in 50-240 feet, yellowtail sand mutton snapper, kingfish, amberjack, BFT, sailfish, grouper and cobia were taking pilchards, sardines, cut and strip baits, jigs and live baits. On the darkside, kingfish were taking almost anything on a hook and hitting weights making cut offs just as frequent.

Nearshore, along the beaches, piers, inlets and Intracoastal Waterway bluefish, snook, pompano, jacks, blue runners, and snappers were along the beaches and around the piers. In the Intracoastal the snook bite was turned on around docks and bridges. Tarpon were on and off in the inlets and around bridges. Bait has been plentiful throughout the area.
 
In freshwater, the bass bite picked up in the lakes as water temperatures rise. Live shiners seem to be produce the best results with swim baits getting hit also.
